Griffith Exies Swimmers travelled to Canberra for the Canberra Classic on December 13 and 14.
All swimmers performed well against strong competition in the final swim before Christmas.
Eilish Aird performed strongly in her nine events, achieving five personal best times. Her 200m and 400m freestyle events were the pick of her swims, showing strong determination to secure two big improvements in these events.
Maddison Aird achieved success with five personal best times and a qualifying state time in the 50m freestyle.
Jordan Bagatella swam a four-second personal best in the 200m backstroke, while Michelle Connelly again performed strongly in her twelve events, collecting two records in the 200m individual medley and 200m butterfly, while also achieving three first, two second and three third placings.
In the 14 years girls, Shenaede Curly gained first place in the 50m butterfly while also gaining six personal best times and qualifying state time, Sarah Keenan gained six personal best times and qualifying state time, while Rebecca Kennedy also attained three personal best times.
In the 13 years girls, Louise Hancock, Latisha Forbes and Jessica Soligo all pushed each other to produce some strong personal performances with Jessica’s 100m Breaststroke and 200m backstroke showing a big improvement.
Nadine Quarisa also achieved a state qualifying time along with three personal best times and six top three placings.
Kim Suandee in the 13 years boys produced six personal best times, which included a qualifying state time.
Shaun Depiano, Mitchell DeMamiel and Callan Mott continue with each carnival to produce a growing list of personal best times, with Mitchell’s 200m individual medley producing a five second improvement.
The highlight perhaps were the relay events, where various teams were put together for the first time this season and all performed creditably with limited preparation. It is always good to see the team events so well supported by the swimmers.
