CORO Cougars are in the box seat to pick up first points at the half-way mark of its two-day game, after making solid inroads into the small Diggers total before the close of play at Exies No. 2.
After knocking over Diggers for only 117, Coro was able to drag back 82 of those runs, but not before the Diggers were able to send six Cougars packing on a day where ball definitely came out on top.
Coro’s Jamie Bennett started the trend early in the afternoon, helping to destabilise
the Diggers top order with a devastating
spell of bowling leaving the Diggers stumbling at 3-14.
Bennett came back later in the innings to wrap up the tail and finish with the excellent figures of 5-18 off 13, with captain Shane Hutchinson also working his magic on the opposition to claim 3-35 from 11.
The only shining light for Diggers was Dean Crack, whose 44 was vital for the club side if they were to collectively make it over the
century, with Brian Corner the only other innings of note with 25.
Coro looked set to sail past the Diggers total in response, with Rob Rand and Bennett
looking very comfortable at the crease to put on an opening stand of 42.
But Glen Faganello set about helping his side claw back into the game, with the vital wickets of Rob Rand (14) and Tim Rand (10) helping to stem the run flow.
And when Bennett was cut short of his half-century by eight, Diggers were back in the game with the pressure well and truly on the Coro middle order to step up.
At stumps momentum was with Diggers as Guy Kelly (4no) and Ty Pascoe (2no) were left to contemplate their jobs next week as Coro sets about chasing down the remaining 35 runs needed for first innings points.
