Adelaide wins plenty of hearts on weekend

21 Nov, 2008 09:01 AM
ADELAIDE United may not have won the Asian Champions League but they have won the hearts of supporters all over Asia and have made another significant step forward for Australian football.

Gamba Osaka defeated Adelaide 5-0 on overall aggregate and to be fair they were technically more superior over the two legs.

On the weekend they faced an determined Central Coast side who simply will not give in as they have come back from 3-0 score lines in recent weeks with the most recent being against Sydney FC in the derby and against Adelaide United a few weeks earlier.

The Central Coast Mariners knew that Adelaide’s extremely busy schedule of late would of played a part in this very exciting fixture as they ran out 3-0 victors.

The physical and mental fatigue kicked in as Sash Petrovski finished the demolition of a tired Adelaide outfit.

TO SERIA A and Inter went back to the top of the standings with the Ibrahimovic show taking centre stage as he scored two absolute screamers from outside the box to give them a 2-0 win over Palermo in Sicily.

AC Milan are only a point behind after a 1-0 win over lowly Chievo thanks to a controversial penalty decision in which Kaka made no mistake to convert.

Juventus were victorious for its sixth straight match in all competitions with a very convincing 4-1 win over Genoa.

Grygera opened the scoring after a delicate flick-on from in-form Del Piero gave him a great position in the box to give them the lead.

Shortly after Grygera was involved again providing the assist for a great Amauri header, followed by an Iaquinta goal despite a very late dubious penalty awarded to Genoa.

Juventus were way too strong and after victories against Real Madrid, Roma and Torino in the Turin derby, they are looking to challenge in Italy and in the UEFA Champions League.

In other results and Roma beat Lazio in the Rome derby after Julio Bapista headed home the winner to give them the 1-0 score line, Reggina shocked Udinese 1-0 away from home in Udine, Atalanta stopped Napoli’s impressive form with a resounding 3-1 victory, Fiorentina were also held after losing 1-0 to Cagliari and Catania won a thriller after beating Torino 3-2.
