Yoogali FC claims victory

02 Jun, 2008 12:43 PM
Though the Tigers were ranked two places ahead of them in this season’s ladder, YFC dominated the field for most of the game, with the frustrated Yenda side unable to hang on to the ball.

The Tigers were well and truly caught on the back foot after the kick-off, with defenders forced back from the YFC assault.

A flurry of action saw a Yenda own goal from defender Sebastiano Raciti in the fourth minute, well and truly shaking up the home side and putting a sour taste in Yenda’s mouths.

But while YFC were clearly the dominant side in the first half of the game, they failed to capitalise on constant pressure on the opposition.

Three unsuccessful free kicks and countless more missed opportunities disappointed YFC coach Bruno Musitano.

“I would have liked to have been several points up at half-time,” Musitano said.

“They set up heaps of chances they didn’t make.”

While Yoogali had more opportunities in the first half, it was Yenda who took advantage, with captain Steve Serafin making the most of his free kick to equalise the scores at the half-time whistle.

But the mid-game score was in no way indicative of the competitiveness of the game, with a keen and often physical Yenda outclassed by the more surgical precision of YFC.

Yoogali seized the second half by the throat, with strong team play converting into their second goal of the match.

“I was really happy with them today,” Musitano said. “They showed good spirit, and they all just did their job.”

Though Yenda began to apply more pressure to YFC 10 minutes into the second half, the frustration of not making an impact on the scoreboard resulted in more physical play. “They always have been a very physical team, and we had to take a few knocks and just let it go,” Musitano said.

YFC captain Luke Devalentin took the score to 3-1 with a successful free kick into the left corner of the net.

Substitute Tristan Sergi added the final goal of the match only minutes after replacing his brother Aaron on the field.
