THEY know the date and the time, now Griffith City Football Club know the opponent that stands in between them and their first State Cup victory, with the local side set to take on Gwawley Bay in the decider next month.
After pulling off one of the biggest upsets in recent history in their semi-final, City will tackle the Sutherland-based side who disposed of the Menai Hawks 2-1 on Sunday.
Not many gave the merged side a chance of making it past the classy Yoogali Soccer Club outfit last Saturday night at Exies Oval, but through sheer determination, City pulled off a win that stunned their own fans and shattered those of the premiers.
Griffith City coach Ross Panebianco said his side will take to heart the mantra of having nothing to lose in the final, as they look to eek out another historical win.
"My approach and the club's approach won't be any different because you're basically going in blind," he said.
"But you would think a side can maybe fluke one or two wins but you can't fluke four or five wins to get into the final so they (Gwawley Bay) must be a half-decent side."
The City coach said having the final three weeks away will actually work in favour of his squad, despite his men riding the crest off a wave of emotion after their win against YSC.
"With the win last week away and then playing at home (against YSC) I think actually helped with our momenteum, I think if we had another week off it might have been different (the outcome)," Panebianco said.
"It probably would have carried the momenteum through if the final was on this weekend, but to be honest, a few of us feel pretty drained.
"But the main thing that's a positive about going three weeks before the final is that we can concentrate on a few big games locally so we can try and pick up some points."
It was a case of deja vu last night as Griffith City faced Yoogali SC in their catch-up league game, with Panebianco prediciting many of the side's bigger stars will be rested.
"I suppose they (Yoogali) want to put things right from what happened on Saturday night, but from our point of view this will be our fourth game in 10 days, and that's a fairly hectic workload at any level and a few of our of guys probably need a rest," he said.
