THE Yenda Tigers soccer club first grade side is currently on top of the endeagered list, and at this stage, is in real danger of not being a part of the 2010 Griffith and District Football season.
After being more than competitive in the first half of last season, Yenda's fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in recent weeks, with numbers lining up for the reserve and first grade side plummuting.
The Tigers only have six reserve graders signed up, five with paperwork, which is the extent of the Tigers entire 32-man squad for senior men this season.
The grim news for the club comes on the back of first grade coach Vince Bagiante stepping down from the role, but president Keith Cox said the club was throwing open the doors to any players who are left without a side for 2010.
All clubs in the Griffith competition will soon have to nominate their final 32-man squad for the season, with The Area News learning several clubs already have an excess of players. Cox said he did not care where the players came from, as long as they wanted to play for the Tigers.
"We've got one first grader from last year signed up, so we're getting desperate that's for sure," Cox said.
"The players that have left have spread themselves throughout several other clubs, some have retired, a few of our younger blokes have gone to uni and we had a few backpackers last year that have gone as well."
In a bid to give the club every chance of fielding a first and reserve grade side, the assocation has granted the Tigers an extension to get their affairs in order.
Yenda will now have until April 2 to name their squad for this season. However, Cox admitted a first grade side might be too much of a stretch for the club, which would be the first time in the senior club's eight-year history that the Tigers has not fielded a first grade side.
"On Monday night we had an assocation meeting and they said they would allow us into the comp with just a reserve grade, women's under 17s and over 35s," Cox said.
"But like I said to them (assocation), if we can find players, or get some of the players that have been cut from other clubs and they wanted to put on a Tigers jersey they are quite welcome to come out."
If Yenda are not able to field a first garde side, then opposing sides will have a bye instead of their usual fixture against the Tigers.
