They have got more to lose than us: Salvestro

03 Sep, 2010 01:00 AM
WESTS Soccer Club coach Bryan Salvestro said all of the pressure is on Hanwood Football Club ahead of the side's massive elimination semi-final at Hanwood Oval tomorrow night.

The Magpies enjoy a 2-1 record over last year's grand finalists this season, and Salvestro said with his first choice side back on the paddock his men were quietly confident of moving beyond the first round of the finals.

"Even though it's finals, it seems like there's not a lot of pressure as opposed to the start of the year," Salvestro said.

"At this stage I see them (Hanwood FC) having more to lose than what we do, it's only going to be a benefit for us playing finals.

"The last two games we've won and (against HFC) I guess the key factor is whether (Jason) Bertacco is out or if he's playing."

However, in a big blow for Hanwood FC's chances Bertacco is set to be ruled out with a hamstring injury after pulling up sore after training on Tuesday night.

Hanwood FC coach Joe Catanzariti said they would give the 2010 golden boot contender every chance to prove his fitness before tomorrow night, but did concede his chances of playing were slim.

"You've just got to deal with it, we've played a lot of games this year without him (Bertacco) and we've got through before so there's no reason why we can't win this one," Catanzariti said of possibly being without one of their key weapons.

"The majority of the boys have played finals football and they'll bring that experience with them, but at this time of the year it's up to everybody to stand up and not rely on other players.

"We've even got enough experience with the younger boys so that shouldn't be a problem."

Hanwood FC's ability to band together with its season on the line is a valuable tool, and with the likes of on-field leaders Ryan Spencer and Anthony Agresta leading the way, the gutsy competition heavyweights can never been discounted.

Ben Phillips was one of Wests' stars the last time the sides clashed, and with his return from injury last weekend against Yoogali FC, he is again set to be a headache for Hanwood's midfield.

Ross Morgan will also play after serving his suspension and fellow English import Andrew Cower will again form his potent combination with Luke Congdon.
