HANWOOD Football Club has unveiled its senior coaching team for season 2012 with two of the best football minds in the region – Joey Schirippa and Anthony Agresta – joining forces for the year ahead.
For Schirippa, his homecoming to his junior club is complete with his roles as football manager and active player, which is set to excite supporters of the club.
After leaving the region to ply his trade in Sydney – and at one stage being on the cusp of a call-up to Sydney FC in the A-League – Schirippa will bring all of his experience back to Hanwood Oval.
“This time in the pre-season seems to be getting earlier every year, but it’s great to have Joey on board – obviously we can share the weight of the coaching this year and bounce ideas off each other,” Agresta said.
“He has brought some fresh ideas to training, just different ways of doing things because you can get too used to the same things during the course of a season.”
After achieving a club-first in 2011 in going through the Griffith season undefeated, Hanwood FC is set to be become part of the Country Super League revolution.
“I think it’s a bit of a different challenge and some variety, because we don’t know what to expect from the teams down there,” Agresta said.
“With this competition up here we know what everybody’s strengths and weaknesses are, but it’s going to be new for us.
“It’s good for the young boys to try and test themselves against new competition, there’s still a few of us experienced guys hanging about this season.
“But I think it’s a good time for us to go forward, try something new and play different sides and look to the younger guys because they’re the future of the club.”
Hanwood FC president Jason Restagno beamed about the Schirippa-Agresta coaching combination saying the former Manly FC star’s role as football manager will benefit every player at the club.
“We’re hoping to give him a bit more flexibility with his role so we can move around the different teams in the club,”?Restagno said.
“Which is going to be great for us because all of the kids look up to him and they really like him.
“But what he has ben able to put together with Anthony already with the training for the first grade side, not many clubs around here will be able to do that, so we’re going forward in the right direction with those two at the head club.”
The rest of Hanwood FC’s coaching announcements include Michael Catanzariti with Roger Bertacco as his assistant for the local first grade side.
Reserve grade coach will be Terry Codemo, with Ryan Pastro to control the club’s under 17s with Aaron Purtell and Jordan Beltrame coaching the all-age women’s team.
