TWO of the best sharp shooters in the Griffith Football competition will go head-to-head on Sunday in a bid to launch their side into the grand final, when competition heavyweights Yoogali SC and Yoogali FC collide at EW Moore Oval.
Yoogali SC's Grant Davidson and Yoogali FC's Tristan Sergi, who are both short listed as Golden Boot winner for 2010, will face off a in a shootout worthy of the "old west".
While both strikers have been in superb form they alone do not hold their entire team's fortunes in their hands, with plenty of star power across the park making it a mouth-watering clash for local football fans.
The last time the side's played, YFC snatched a injury-time draw, something that Yoogali SC coach Tony Santolin warned could happen again if his men lapse with seconds left.
"It goes to show that no mater what the score is, you're in with a chance and you can change the game in the blink of an eye," Santolin said.
"It was not the best performance we've had, but everybody is waiting for this time of the year and we were out in front and had nothing to play for except pride, which is still very important.
"Everybody has to be accountable for their performance on the day, we've got the
team to do it, but we need the commitment and the desire to match it.”
While Davidson and Scott Graham will be the focal point of YSC’s attack, Santolin paid tribute to the player nicknamed Coffee, with midfielder Damon Cafe also to have a big say in the final outcome.
“He’s a quiet achiever and the players really respect how tirelessly he works for the team and that’s a trait that’s endearing for the rest of the side,” he said.
“They rate him as one of the most important players in our team.”
Sergi this season has made the leap from player with talent to potential match winner, with YFC coach Pat Ciampa well aware of how far he has come this year.
“At the start of the year I said about the young kids in the club that I want to see them improve and enjoy themselves.
“Tristan’s one of those guys, he’s always played reserve grade but he’s had that talent, so this year he said he wanted to have a crack at first grade and he’s put in the commitment.
“With me being a striker as well, I’ve taken him under my wing and he’s applied himself.”
“Nobody has been able to knock them (YSC) off the top spot, they’ve been sitting pretty up there so really the boys have got an opportunity to see if we can knock them off.
“Realistically they’re (YSC) expected to go into the grand final with the personnel they’ve got and their track record this year.
“Our motto we’ve been drilling into each other this week is that we’re not going to die wondering.”
