Hanwood FC 2
Leeton United 0
THERE was no anger and none of the signs of tension that radiated from the players and fans the last time Hanwood Football Club and Leeton United faced each other.
There were simply two goals to the visiting side that saw the Griffith-based side bagging the three points yesterday in what was another solid performance, especially in the second half.
Hanwood coach Joe Catanzariti said yesterday's performance was critical if the side was to continue pulling itself out of its mini form slump.
"Whether we had a full team or not it was going to be a tough game but we grinded it out," Catanzariti said.
"As long as the boys go out there with the right attitude I'm happy, and at the moment we're getting the results.
"All the hard work we put in last week would have counted for nothing if we didn't come home with the three points today -I couldn't ask for anything more."
Leeton coach Joe Trifogli enthused of his side's performance, but was not so positive about the linesmen's performances, saying they cost his side the opening goal of the game.
"That was the best performance of the season, we played hard and created chances, their 'keeper was pretty good and he saved top chances from Adam Raso in the first half," Trifogli said.
"Their first goal, the bloke was off-side the guys all stopped and it wasn't given and he scored, we all pushed up and the linesman didn't give it so they scored so there's a goal there.
"They got another lucky goal, our blokes were talking to the referee and Hanwood decided to take a quick free kick and it rebounded off a player to one of their guys and straight into the net.
"Things will turn for us, the blokes were happy with their effort, we had a lot of chances ourselves and by rights I think it should have been a nil-all draw it was so even.
"I'm not happy with the linesman and the referee's performance, but you get that sometimes."
Hanwood could have been up by more at half-time if it wasn't for being denied by the woodwork twice in the opening stanza, but Matt Bugno was able to be the beneficiary of the possible missed off-side to give his side the lead.
Not long after the resumption of play Matt Pavese put Hanwood in control at 2-0, but not before Leeton nearly gave themselves a chance of a comeback when a Daniel Alampi header was parried over the bar.
Hanwood then peppered United's goal but missed more than three decent attempts in front of goal as they secured another three critical points.
Joesph Fodacaro, Scott Munro and Andrew Luff were outstanding in a losing side, while Daniel Quarisa and Bugno at the back were rock-solid for Hanwood.
