THE Riverina under 14s representative side has completed the rare double of going through the Branch Titles and Country Cup undefeated, with the second crown adding to the side's sterling season.
Led by their rock-solid midfield, the side was never tested as they claimed the title reserved for the best sides for their age in NSW.
Coach Anthony Pastro lauded praise on his midfield generals, saying they controlled the pace and structure of the game very well, even as the workload of four games in two days began to bite hard.
"Our midfield was very strong this year, our defence was good but our mid controlled the game and didn't really allow the opposition to get through into our backfield," he said.
First up Riverina recorded a solid 2-0 win over Western before pulling out the fireworks up front to defeat Southern in a high-scoring game 4-2.
Midfield maestros Hannah Pastro, Rhianna Colpo, Jodie Hicks, Alex Scobie continued to work their magic on the second day of competition, but Riverina's opponents were able to shut down their attack more effectively with two narrow 1-0 wins in the return legs.
"The depth of the side was tested over the couple of days that's for sure Melissa Baquero, Jini Sibbick and Alex Scobie helped out the under 16s as well so it was a big effort from those girls," Pastro said.
