Depth of Hanwood FC tested

02 Jul, 2010 01:00 AM
HANWOOD Football Club will go into its much-anticipated clash with Leeton United missing some of it's biggest names, as coach Joe Catanzariti looks to string back-to-back wins together with a patched-up first grade side.

Amazingly, seven players are either unavailable or injured, with Ryan Spencer (unavailable), Anthony Agresta (ankle), Tony Perry (knee), Andrew Quarisa (ankle), Michael Bresolin (ankle) and Michael Musitano (unavailable) all potentially missing for the heated clash. It will be the first time the sides have played each other since round six, when a Daniel Alampi tackle on Jason Bertacco nearly caused a riot between both teams fans.

Since the combustible incident both Leeton and Hanwood club officials have held extensive talks to smooth over relations between the clubs.

"We've never gone over there and found it to be a walk in the park and this weekend probably isn't going to be any different," Hanwood FC coach Joe Catanzariti said of the road trip to Leeton.

"It (players missing) is definitely a good chance for some of these guys that have played during the year, so they'll be out to show they deserve the spot that they'll be given.

"At this time of the year you want a bit more stability, but these are the cards we've been dealt and we just have the make the most of the situation."

However, Hanwood recorded one of its best wins this season when they bounced back to form to defeat fellow competition heavyweights Yoogali FC last weekend.

Helping United's chances of an upset is the return of several key players including the signing of Matthew Watson and Jason Nardi, who will both start from the bench.

"We may get Jason Bowe back this week and we get Scott Munro will be back from his honeymoon and Adam Raso is back from suspension so that helps," Leeton coach Joe Trifogli said.

The United leader said he will "unshackle" his side and given them an order to go on an all out attack on Sunday as they look to keep their season alive.

"If we lose this we're gone, really we can't afford to lose anymore so we basically keep having to stringing wins together," he said.

"We need to win so we'll be going on an all out attack, and an attacking style of football we can't have a nil-all draw, we need to win the game.

"We'll also have blokes in their right positions this week which we haven't had over the last four or five weeks, we've had kids out of position coming up from other grades, and senior players in roles they aren't comfortable with."
