The underprepared Swans went down to the undefeated Wagga side 17.11 (113) to 8.7 (55).
After a tight opening term, Tigers gradually put the foot on the accelerator, kicking five goals in each of the remaining quarters to record a comfortable victory.
Swans coach Gerard Toscan said the early pressure applied by Griffith didn’t translate into points.
“We started not too bad, but we couldn’t put a lot of scoreboard pressure on them early,” Toscan said.
“We had the bulk of the play in the first quarter, but they ran a lot harder than we did.”
Craig Conlan was the stand-out player for the Swans, putting in his usual solid performance.
Toscan also named Mick Duncan and centre half-back James Taylor as impressive performers in the match.
But they just couldn’t get ahead of the Tigers, who gained overwhelming momentum in the last three quarters of the game.
Unfamiliar with the surface of Wagga’s Robertson Oval, the Swans struggled to keep a hold on the ball.
“One thing that was really glaring was we fumbled the ball a hell of a lot,” Toscan said.
But the big loss won’t result in more intensive training, according to Toscan.
“We’ve been pushing them pretty hard, and a few guys were probably a bit heavy in the legs by the end of the game,” he said.
Wagga Tigers coach Troy Maiden admitted he was slightly worried entering the game with such a young team, but said he could not have been prouder with their efforts.
“It was exciting for me to stand here and watch these young blokes play,” Maiden said.
“I’ll admit, I thought it might have been a danger game because we were so inexperienced but they really stood up and got the job done.
“I keep telling them to put their head over the footy and to their credit they continue to and there are some really good signs.”
While applauding the efforts of his younger guys, Maiden asked for big efforts off his senior players and they delivered.
“Chris Jackson was very good today, I asked him to step up and he along with Steve Priest and Shannon Terlich did that,” Maiden said.
The Swans will be hoping to break their losing streak next week in a home game against top of the ladder team the Turvey Park Bulldogs.
