So far this season, the Swans have at times struggled to play a complete game of football, with various areas of play often failing the Swans when they needed them.
But there were little signs of the mistake- riddled games of the past, with the Swans booting an amazing 26 goals for the game, with Mick Duncan bagging himself seven majors in a dominant display.
Swans coach Gerard Toscan said he expected the Saints to come at his team hard in the first quarter, but congratulated his side on weathering the early storm to streak away with the game.
“They started pretty hard, and when your struggling you only really have got one chance to get into the game,” Toscan said.
“But once the guys (Griffith) settled down, they started knuckling down and played the same type of game that we have been all year.”
That style of play of hard running and good clearances out of the middle clicked for the red and white men last weekend, and when combined with minimum mistakes from the backline, the Swans ran riot over the hapless Saints outfit.
Toscan praised Jack Geddes and Sean Curren for their impact at the centre bounce.
The Swans went into the first break with a slender 17-point lead, but as the Swans stretched their wings, so did the lead as they piled on eight goals in the second quarter.
The thrashing was capped off with six and nine goals in the third and fourth quarters respectively.
Having a big hand on the big finish by the away side was Kris Duncan, who recovered from a scrappy start to bag himself five majors.
“Kris started the game a little slow, he was always under the ball and making a few mistakes. We took him off and had a word to him and when he went back on, he couldn’t be in the wrong spot,” Toscan said.
