HANWOOD will have the bragging rights for the next six months at their club, with Colts cantering over the line by an amazing nine wickets in their Griffith and District B grade preliminary final.
The game was always shaping up as a grudge match between the two Hanwood sides, with the ultimate prize being the only side for the club in the decider.
The day in fact started out well for Colts, with John Witherspoon collecting a wicket when Hanwood's score was just on one with somebody needing to provide a streadying influence on the innings.
Enter Vinnie Restagno, whose very patient 25 from 98 balls allowed the rest of his side to try and blast away from the other end, however, the Colts bowlers continued to chip away and destabalise the Hanwood battling line-up. Bernie Sullivan provided some runs in the middle-order for Hanwood, but the experience of Graham Robinson (4-10) proved too much, as the pace bowler cleaned up the tail to see Hanwood score the below-par total of just 87.
In reply Colts were in no trouble as they crusied to victory, with a 71-run partnership between Brett Crooks (31) and Duncan McWhirter (39no) taking them to the threshold of victory.
