HE HAS been the underdog for much of his career, a journeyman who has never backed down from a fight no matter who the opponent may have been.
Last year he made his long-awaited comback to his home town, where he became one of the stories of the night - detroying his opponent with a savage, technical knockout.
But now, Frank Ciampa has been handed the oppoturnity of a lifetime - a title fight in his own backyard.
April 17 will see Ciampa return to the scene of his last triumph, when he battles Kongrid Nanakorn for the WBF Asia Pacfic super middleweight title.
The event has been set up by Josh King Promotions in conjunction with Peter Maniatis Boxing Promtions, with Griffith City Boxing's Mario Rizzeri saying it will be a massive night for one of the city's favourite sons.
"Frank has fought against all odds and he's now fighting on for all of the right reason, and he's going to bring the title to Griffith," Rizzeri said.
"It's his homecoming title fight, he's doing it for Griffith and he is basically representing everyone that has got some kind of fight going on in their lives, because he's believing that he can do it and he's believing he can do it for Griffith in Griffith."
Rizzeri hinted there will be more exciting news regarding who will be appearing and fighting on the night, but said he will reveal more details as soon as they can be confirmed.
