GRIFFITH Demons coach Andrew Cullen concedes his side is the underdog heading into its clash with Queanbeyan tomorrow night -and that's just the way he likes it.

In what is the biggest game of the season for the Demons they will be looking to atone for their 81-75 loss to Queanbeyan when they host the Roadrunners on what is one of the most daunting road trips in the competition.

Last time the Demons played the State League heavyweights they enjoyed a handy 10-point lead going into the half-time break but faded down the stretch as the Roadrunners turned up the heat.

But other than the notion

that his side can match it with their arch-rivals, Cullen said it was still a loss and was not taking too much out of the clash last month.

"We certainly proved we can run with them at the best of the times, but I think we shot poorly from the floor in the second half as much as they played well, but it's up to us really, if we can play well then we can take them.

"If we can beat them it will give us breathing space, because if we drop a game we shouldn't along the way then we'll still sitting in that second spot, especially with some of the tough double headers and road trips we have later in the year."

Last start against a lacklustre Moss Vale Magic, the Demons has one of their customary slow starts but climbed back into the game with excellent pressure and plenty of stops without the ball.

Their zone defence forced the Magic's guards to panic when trying to find an open man, and Cullen said he would try and employ that and other defensive tactics tomorrow night to keep the visitors on their toes.

"We'll be definitely be playing zone this weekend, but we'll be looking to mix it up because I think it's good to not let teams get to comfortable," he said.

"But we've been looking to develop a press, so an even more aggressive style of defence, which probably won't be used too much this weekend but more so when we played Wagga and their guards."

Cullen will have a tough choice with a full squad of 11 having to be cut down by one for the clash, but in a boost for the Demons' chances big man Corey Ryan is again available for selection.

Ryan provided a massive boost against Moss Vale, in that he allowed a fluid rotation between himself Adam O'Callaghan and Leon Rosborough, in a bid to not leave Griffith short in their line-up.

Andrew Cappello also provided spark off the bench in his first game for the season, and when combined with Nick Cullen and Mick Duncan, the Demons have all the weapons to pull off an upset and jump to the to of the table.
