Griffith Demons 92
Wagga Heat 80
GRIFFITH clinically disposed of the Wagga Heat by 12 points in a typically fiery State League basketball clash, with the Demons never seriously being challenged at West End Stadium on Saturday night.
The win takes the Demons' 2010 record to an impressive 11-3 and secures the side second place on the ladder, with the post-season only a fortnight away.
Coach Andrew Cullen admitted his side were flat heading into a game he called a "dead-rubber" but said the prospect of clean sweeping their arch-rivals for the season visibly lifted the side.
"The only thing that fired us up was the fact it was a game against Wagga, in essence otherwise it's kind of a dead-rubber because you know you're in finals," Cullen said.
"So it was a good to methodically go out there and win because they're a side that you have to go out there and beat.
"We weren't humming (playing well) and we still beat them and we did it easily in the end."
Griffith struggled to find their range from the field in the early going, but several players soon found their rhythm after making trips to the free-throw line.
Cullen in particular found his range from beyond the arc to knock down a barrage of bombs from three-point land, with the returning Nick Cullen finding his brother on a regular basis.
