The Heat had an opportunity to snatch a last minute win with a long range three pointer, but the shot sailed wide.
Demons coach Andrew Cullen had only praise for his side, saying they remained level headed, even when things were not going their way.
“It was a pretty incredible way to start,” Cullen said.
“I was pretty confident we could go there and beat them, considering how hard we had been training.
“But we were down by 11 at the start of the game, we called a timeout and regrouped and by the end of the quarter we only three behind.
“Even though were still three down, we felt like we had won the quarter because of the momentum shift that went out way.”
Cullen said the cornerstone of the Demons’ comeback was on the defensive end, with the team scraping and chasing down loose ball whenever it presented itself.
“Defensively, the effort was nothing short of fantastic,” he said.
“The game was so full on, the first five minutes was like a whole game and even Levi (Seekins) said the intensity was like a collage game in America.
“I am so happy with the boys, they went down early but I said to them ‘don’t be scared by this’ and they started making their shots.”
After coming back from a large margin in the first quarter, the Demons then grew in confidence in the rest of the game, with Cullen pouring in 26 points, while new recruit Seekins added 22.
Also pleasing for the Demons was that their scoring came from all players, including the bench.
Adam O’Callaghan, Mick Duncan and Andrew Capello all scored as the Demons lead blew out to 12 with only six minutes remaining.
But Wagga came storming back to give Griffith a late scare, but the Demons celebrated a bruising win.
Cullen said some of his players were feeling the strain after the game, but was not sure if any long term injuries had been sustained. He said said further checks will have to be made this week at training.
The Demons will play Moss Vale at West End stadium this weekend, in what will be a big home coming for the local side as they look to make it two on the trot.
