WHEN Laura Andreazza wakes up on her 40th birthday she wants to know she gave athletics her best shot.
Not the type of level-headed answer you would expect from a 15-year-old when asked why she is making one of the biggest decisions of her young life.
Andreazza will furthering her running career in Sydney for the next two years as part of the Pymble Ladies College athletics program under the tutelage of Melissa Medlicott who represented Australia at the 1992 Barcelona and 2002 Sydney Olympic games.
"I've got two years left in school and I wanted to see how far I could go and I need to run with girls that are my speed on a daily basis so I can push myself more," she said. "When I've finished (running) I want to look back and know that I've put in as much effort as I could have, and if I made it that's cool but if I didn't then I just wasn't good enough but I put in as much effort as I could."
Andreazza will train five days a week, with two gym sessions, and compete regularly on tartan running tracks which will give her a greater chance of reaching her potential.
As for her plans in the next school year, Andreazza said she is not setting the bar too high at this stage, but will re-evaluate as she becomes more accustomed to her training program.
"The first six months I'll probably just be settling in, I'm aiming to try and run at a carnival in February, but I'm not sure how I'll go because I'll be used to the school and the team," she said.
"So, however I go, I'm not really worried. I haven't made any specific plans yet but I just want to go as far as I can."
Laura's mother Julie said her daughter should thrive in the team training environment offered by the Sydney college.
"She's very self-motivated but it is a hard slog on her own, but where she's going she will be in a team and it will be a whole different atmosphere," Julie said.
"I think being in a team atmosphere will be good for her as well, because she's been training and running by herself now for a little while."
Laura said it was very hard saying goodbye to Wade High School recently, and thanked her most recent coach Doug Shae for his efforts.
