Woolworths lends a hand

23 Jan, 2008 07:46 AM
On February 15 all Woolworths stores will donate the profits from the day's sales to the Country Women’s Association (CWA) to distribute among rural families in need.

Griffith Woolworths store manager Ian Harvey said the day is a great way for stores to help their communities.

“Some of the money raised will be distributed locally as this area has felt the brunt of the drought and more recently had some severe storms go through,” Mr Harvey said.

“So we are urging people to really think about making Friday, February 15, the day people do their groceries.”

CWA Griffith branch president Peggy Hollands said the day raised around $5 million nationally last year.

“It was a great success last year and money from the national event was distributed through us locally, and there is still a lot of need for the money here,” Mrs Hollands said.

The CWA will also have a stall at the Griffith store on the day.
