Teens charged over 2 violent attacks

30 Jul, 2008 12:02 PM
FOUR Griffith teenagers have been charged over two muggings committed just minutes apart on Monday night.

The teens, aged between 16 and 19, allegedly struck first about 6.15pm on the corner of Ulong and Yambil streets, approaching a Korean man and asking the time.

When the man pulled out a mobile phone, one of the teens grabbed it and also took some money, police said.

The victim was allegedly assaulted when he asked for his money back.

Five minutes later a Japanese backpacker was attacked in the same area, police allege.

An iPod, cash and a mobile phone were taken from the man, who was allegedly punched and kicked by three members of the gang when he tried to follow them.

Police later arrested four juveniles at a Bringagee Street address, to which they had earlier allegedly been followed by one of the victims.

The teens were charged with a range of offences, including robbery with aggravation and robbery in company.
