IF THE early results of a survey being carried out by Carrathool Shire Council are anything to go by locals are against daylight saving.
But the clock is ticking, with only days left for shire residents to complete and return their surveys to council.
Carrathool mayor Peter Laird said he wasn't surprised to see the overwhelming 83 per cent so far opposed to it, but urged anyone who hasn't yet, to have their say.
"The results so far just shows that rural people do hate it especially families with young children, who have to get on buses really early," he said.
"By the end of November we hope we'll have a good representation and feedback from everyone in the shire.
"A lot of people have said that we are wasting our time but we've had so many complaints that we felt we had to do this. We want it to be a genuine poll and we encourage everyone to take part and let us know either way."
Mr Laird said if the survey reveals that Carrathool residents are strongly opposed to daylight saving then he plans to take the matter up with the State Government.
"Daylight saving was foisted on us by our city cousins back in 1971," he said.
"And it's obvious they like it. But the whole argument about saving power and flexible work hours doesn't hold up anymore.
"I'd urge everyone to fill out the survey because there is only a bit over a week to go."
