HSC students from across the Riverina took the term study group to the extreme on Monday.
Griffith High School played host to more then 400 students across the district as part of the Regional English Study Day.
Event organiser Darryl Meredith said the day provided a great opportunity for students to prepare for their final examinations.
“The kids really get a lot out of it. It is a fantastic day,” Mr Meredith said.
“Griffith’s is the biggest in the state, with kids travelling from West Wyalong, Finley, Narrandera, Hay … to name a few.
“It is really good, particularly for smaller schools.”
The day began with guest speaker and poet Peter Skryznecki discussing his works which are set down for study on the NSW HSC syllabus.
“Peter provided the kids with a new perspective on his works,” Mr Meredith said.
“He has always said he really enjoys coming to this event in Griffith every year because
he loves working with country kids.”
West Wyalong student Chantelle John said the event had been really beneficial.
“It is great to be given more insight into the texts we have been studying this year,” Ms John said.
“The whole day I think has given us all a head start on our studies, it has been really good.”
The day was full of workshops covering all of the major texts studied for both Advanced and Standard English, from Shakespeare’s King Lear to Jane Austen’s Emma.
