Stabbing victim stable

14 Oct, 2009 01:00 AM
A GRIFFITH man who underwent emergency surgery after being stabbed in the bowel during an altercation on Saturday night remains in a serious but stable condition.

When contacted by The Area News yesterday, a Griffith Base Hospital spokesperson said the 33-year-old man had been transferred from the intensive care unit (ICU) into a ward where he was being closely monitored.

At about 9.30pm on Saturday, he was allegedly stabbed by another 33-year-old man during an altercation at a Canal Street address.

The alleged offender was arrested by police and was granted bail at Griffith Bail Court yesterday.

He faces a charge of reckless wounding and will front Griffith Local Court today.

A section of Canal Street was blocked off by police on Saturday night for three hours while forensic officers and detectives gathered evidence.

The victim has not yet given a statement to police.
