JUST three days into the new season and Griffith residents have already had a taste of what is to come with cooler autumn mornings enjoyed.
The first day of the new season, Monday, brought an overnight low of 12.5 degrees.
But overall, summer ended with average maximum temperatures a few degrees warmer .
December's average maximum was 31.9 degrees, January, 35.3 degrees and February 32.4 degrees.
February also delivered welcome rains, with 41.8mm recorded in Griffith.
According to CSIRO Griffith senior technical officer David Smith, the summer months were only the fifth warmest in 45 years, with average mean temperature of 25 degrees compared to 23.5 as the long term average.
"It was also the 15th wettest summer in 45 years, with total rainfall at CSIRO coming to 128mm compared to 90mm as the long-term average," he said.
Good falls in both December and February helped deliver water to bone-dry gauges.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Meteorology's outlook for the next three months for our area is for slightly cooler temperatures.
They describe the outlook for rainfall as neutral, meaning it will be neither wetter nor drier than the long-term average.
However, light to moderate falls of between 10 and 20mm are predicted for Thursday and Friday in Griffith this week.
Saturday should also bring a few light showers from the west.
Temperatures should reach 29 degrees on Thursday and Friday, while 28 degrees is tipped for Saturday.
