Phil’s pumpkin is dinner for 10

While Mr Richards admits he’s no expert when it comes to the size of pumpkins, he reckons it’s not bad for his first-ever attempt.

“All I did was chucked a few seeds in and off they went,” he said.

“It’s this weather that is doing it, they have gone wild.

“I know there could be bigger pumpkins out there but it’s the biggest I’ve ever seen.”

Mr Richards said he couldn’t believe his eyes when he discovered three whoppers growing in his Macarthur Street backyard.

“I had some celery and other things in too but the pumpkin has just taken over,” he said.

“You can’t see anything else in the patch at all now. It’s growing into the shed and all over a loveseat.

“I took some photos to bingo the other day and everyone there was impressed with the size.”

Mr Richards now plans to share his giant pumpkins with his family and friends.

“I reckon one of these will be enough to feed more than 10 people easily,” he said.

“I’m going to leave the rest on the vine to see just how big they can get.”

He estimates the largest of the three weighs just under 20kg.
