The song, Hope Within a Storm, is the result of Muso Magic, a two-day workshop in which 30 students from the three local high schools worked together to write and record a fully-produced song.
Muso Magic creator and ARIA award-winning singer-songwriter Adam Thompson from Chocolate Starfish said the
program is an “opportunity to engage students through music while igniting their enthusiasm”.
“We are not trying to create rock stars, just kids with better human potential,” he said.
“I’ve seen some really focussed kids with wonderful promise over the past two days and it’s been one of the best workshops we’ve held.
“Through this experience they explored songwriting, learnt techniques that encouraged creative thinking and built self esteem.”
The workshop, run on Thursday and Friday, was made possible thanks to a joint effort between Griffith, Leeton and Darlington Point Apex.
Apex District Governor Mathew Harrison said the idea was to allow local students to make some music of their own.
Students also created the artwork for their CD cover as well as edited their song’s video clip.
The workshop culminated with a live performance of the song by the participants, who call themselves G-Town Reps, in front of an audience made up of teachers, family and peers on Friday afternoon at host school Marian Catholic College.
