GRIFFITH mayor Mike Neville has condemned the alleged actions of six locals embroiled in the latest drug bust in the city.
“If they’re found guilty, it never ceases to amaze me the stupidity of some people,” he said.
“It disappoints me that people want to continue to get involved in this sort of illegal activity.”
Police seized more cannabis with a street value of $4 million following raids in the area over the past three days.
They unearthed more than 2000 cannabis plants growing in a combination of indoor and outdoor hydroponic set-ups.
Cr Neville said if the people arrested were found guilty, they were little more than “selfish clowns”.
“It does nothing for the community, their selfishness is unbelievable,” he said.
“The simple fact of the matter is that 99.9 percent of Griffith is honest, hardworking people then you get
these clowns who are only interested in making money off kids.
“Griffith is certainly not an isolated case; there are plenty of other places affected by drugs.
“It’s just a tragedy that this happens and that these people create problems for us all down the track.
“I just hope the system deals with them to the full extent of the law. We need to make an example of someone so they are deterred.”
