A GROUP of Griffith mums is urging local businesses to close for the Murray Darling Basin Authority meeting next week, vowing to support the businesses that support the community.
The mothers have joined forces to put the message out -all businesses, including the multi-nationals, should close their doors for three hours on December 15 to stand up for their community.
"We support Griffith businesses by going in and spending our money there, now it's time for them to support us in our time of crisis," concerned resident Mary Romeo said.
"We want everyone to get behind us and our town - they might lose a few dollars but that's nothing compared to what they'll lose in the end if we don't stand up and fight.
"If they support us, we'll make sure we support them, so by shutting their doors for the day, they're benefiting us as well as benefiting themselves."
Young mum Janelle Poloni said business owners just needed to look at the empty stores around Griffith to see the toll the Murray-Darling Basin plan had already taken.
She said the only way to stop the situation worsening was for businesses to join the fight.
"Shops are struggling, jobs are starting to disintegrate, and we're all scared because we don't know what's going to happen," Ms Poloni said.
"Our men have done so much to keep the farms going, to keep the town running. Now it's our turn to do everything we can."
