TO the sound of hundreds of screaming fans and thunderous applause, Jessica Mauboy brought Marian Catholic College to its feet during her long-awaited concert on Friday.
The songbird, who was meant to perform in Griffith last year but had to pull out due to an illness, said she was happy to finally come to town.
"I'm really excited to be here and I know they've been waiting so long for me to actually come down so I'm really excited to finally be performing for them," she said.
While Mauboy was only in town for one day, she said she was looking forward to coming back here when she goes on tour.
"I've never been here before but Griffith looks awesome, it reminds me of my home town back near Darwin," Mauboy said.
“I’ve always wanted to do some touring and Griffith will definitely be on the list.”
Mauboy performed five songs from her album Been Waiting at a special concert held during the school’s Harmony Day celebrations.
With a Timorese Indonesian father and Indigenous
Australian mother, the songstress personified the spirit of Harmony Day and Mauboy said she was excited to be part of the celebrations as she always had fond memories of the day from her time at school.
Mauboy also apologised to all Griffith residents
who had bought tickets to her public concert at the
end of last year and said she hoped they would come to her show when she comes back on tour.
