GRIFFITH’S annual street party, La Festa, is on a recruitment drive for volunteers and committee members to keep the event afloat.
The Easter festival relies solely on community spirit and council’s events co-ordinator Shannon Collins said it would simply not happen without an army of volunteers.
“A lot of people think it’s a council event but it actually runs purely on volunteer manpower,” Ms Collins said.
“This is a great way for people to give back to Griffith and help an event which provides national promotional opportunities for Griffith.
“It’s all positive publicity too, which is something we really need.”
She said the event also played a crucial role in supporting the local economy.
The La Festa committee will hold its annual meeting this Wednesday from 6pm at the Burley Griffin room in the regional theatre.
Ms Collins said both committee members and helpers were being sought, and said the current committee had a good mix of people.
“It’s really a social thing and a great way to meet new people,” she said. “It’s a chance to be a bit creative and get a look at how the event industry works.
“It’s also a very relaxed, informal group of people and members can decide how much they want to commit.”
