THREE years of hard work has paid off for parents and staff at the Kindergarten Lane Preschool, with an impressive water-wise garden to show for their efforts.
On Thursday, October 23, parents of past and present preschoolers gathered to witness the official unveiling of the project that was the result of a water-saving grant that was applied for back in 2005.
President of the preschool management committee Julie Redway said the project was the result of countless working bees, plenty of patience and lots of effort.
“The main aim of the grant was for us to collect rain water. We have been able to put in a water tank, a low-water usage garden, water feature and the KOOL students painted some indigenous art for us,” she said.
“It’s been a community project and we are extremely happy with the end result. The paintings depict the dreamtime story of Tiddalik the Frog.”
Parent and landscaper Peter Star gave a rundown on the clever design.
“The original concept derived from a view that children are missing the link between what happens out of town and in the bush,” he said.
“We wanted to bring some of that into the preschool.”
