IN A scene that looked like something out of a horror movie, Rita Lewis found herself trapped inside her home by 400 roly polys last Sunday.
The Yenda resident got the surprise of her life when she found she could not open her back door because the prickly plants were blocking the doorway.
It was 80kmh winds on Saturday night that sent the uninvited orbs into her backyard.
“I’ve never, ever seen anything like this,” Mrs Lewis said.
“It was just such a surprise. I was heading out to hang out my washing but I couldn’t open the door. When I finally got it open I had to clear a path to get through.”
Mrs Lewis said the unwanted guests, which are scattered all around her property, make for an unusual sight.
“When I saw how many there were I thought holy moly I’ve been attacked,” she said.
“The winds were really strong overnight but I never thought there would be so many. I could see them out the window but it wasn’t until I got right outside that I saw the extent of it. It was a funny sight.
“They are buggers to move because they are so prickly. But we will be getting rid of them next week.”
DPI’s district horticulturist Rachael Whitworth said she wasn’t surprised to hear about the plants.
“I’ve seen quiet a few around lately and there does seem to be more around than usual. I suppose it’s a sign of the times,” she said.
