Harold celebrates 30 years

01 Jul, 2009 12:00 AM

SIGHTINGS of a wild animal roaming the grounds of a local school on Monday have been confirmed.

But investigations found that the giraffe in question at Griffith Public School was just there to help celebrate 30 years for the Riverina Life Education Mobile Learning Centre and a refurbishment.

The mobile learning centre, using its mascot Harold the Giraffe, teaches children to respect their bodies, be healthy and active and to make wise choices in life through drug and alcohol education.

The chairman of Life Education NSW, Alan Cadman, officiated on Monday morning at the launch and again at the public meeting held at the school that evening.

"Nothing could be more important to us as parents than having children living a healthy lifestyle and saying no to drugs", Mr Cadman said.

"The Griffith community has been a wonderful and large supporter of Life Education in the past and this has been greatly appreciated."

Also attending was Riverina MP Kay Hull and Murrumbidgee MP Adrian Piccoli.

Griffith Public School principal Chris Cundy called it an honour to host the launch.

"It's very important for children to be given the right message about life education and that's what this van does," he said. Life education provides classes from Kindergarten to year 6, secondary classes and parent forums and the refurbishment includes multimedia.
