Griffith man fronts court on rape charges

01 Sep, 2010 01:00 AM
A MAN extradited from Canberra to answer a rape allegation has been remanded in custody ahead of a court appearance later this year.

Lachlan Hinder of Bugno Crescent, Griffith, is charged with raping a woman in a Wakaden Street unit in the early hours of August 21.

The 18-year-old did not apply for bail when he fronted Griffith Local Court for the first time yesterday and it was formally refused.

Griffith detectives were unable to find Hinder in the days following the alleged incident until they received a tip-off he was in Canberra.

Police in the nation's capital tracked him down on August 26 and he was charged with sexual intercourse without consent.

Hinder was also charged with possessing money reasonably suspected to be unlawfully obtained after he was found with $740.

He will reappear in court on October 27.
