Foster carers don't often get the thanks they deserve - but that changed last weekend, with a barbecue held to celebrate our local carers in the lead up to Foster Care Week.
Over 150 children, carers and community services staff gathered for a much-needed day out which included face painting, a jumping castle, art and more fun activities for the kids.
Local carer Mary-Ellen Bradley said the day gave the children an opportunity to enjoy a fun and supportive family environment.
"This barbecue gave the kids the chance to have the type of family outing other kids take for granted. But for these kids, it was something special because they don't often get the opportunity to do something like this and they just had a ball," Ms Bradley said.
"We had so much support, from West End Wines who donated the venue to Casella Wines and Noyce Salmon and D'Aquino and more - these businesses really made the barbecue possible and it's great to see the community getting behind our kids.
"We organise something like this every year because it is so important to get everyone together, recognise the work our carers do and thank them for it."
Foster Care Week will be held from September 12-18.
