A GRIFFITH man accused of assaulting three police officers will fight 10 charges in Griffith Local Court next week.
Bradley Keith Robbie, 34, appeared twice in Wagga Local Court on Monday after violent clashes with police officers at his Walla Avenue home and Griffith Police Station on the weekend.
A 43-year-old female sergeant suffered a suspected broken arm and bruising to her face, a male constable received a bloodied nose and a female constable sought treatment for a hip injury as a result of the incidents.
Robbie had been arrested at his residence on Saturday night following a domestic incident and spent the night behind bars.
He was freed on Sunday morning after an appearance in Griffith Bail Court.
Police allege they were called back to Robbie’s house about 1.30pm where he armed himself with a beer bottle
and a piece of wood while making threats against the officers before throwing bottles at them.
A Taser was used to subdue Robbie but after his arrest he lashed out, kicking the female sergeant in the head, causing bruising, and kicking a 24-year-old male constable in the face, causing a bloodied nose.
At the police station, it is alleged Robbie again became violent, kicking the sergeant in the elbow and possibly breaking it, and kicking a female constable in the stomach area, causing hip pain.
Robbie was eventually charged with seven counts of assaulting police and one count each of resisting police, contravening an apprehended violence order and being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.
In Wagga Local Court on Monday, magistrate Megan Greenwood ordered he be taken to hospital for a mental
health assessment.
The solicitor appearing for Robbie, Jim Allen, told the court Robbie had claimed to be “hearing voices”.
On Monday afternoon, Robbie was brought back to court, guarded by two police officers near the dock and a Corrective Services officer at the door.
The case was adjourned to the February 27 sittings of Griffith Local Court.
Robbie, his head bowed and wearing a hooded rain jacket, did not apply for bail.
He will be required to enter a plea to the charges at his next court appearance.
