Blue-green algae levels force closure of lake

22 Mar, 2010 11:06 AM
TOXIC levels of blue-green algae have again forced the closure of Lake Wyangan just days after it reopened to the public.

Griffith City Council announced it had shut the north lake on Friday after tests revealed the potentially dangerous bacteria had returned.

The lake was first closed to all users on February 15 before briefly reopening on March 12.

All recreational activities such as swimming, boating and fishing have been banned in order to prevent residents coming into direct contact with the water.

Council will carry out weekly tests and the lake will remain closed until the algae drops to safe levels.
