"HAVE a deep breath, stand still and then take the picture" ? simple yet sage advice from an award-winning local photographer.
But there's a catch ? Angus Brown is only six-years-old.
The kindergarten student won first prize in the recent Griffith Show Society under 10 colour and nature photography competition.
The image, aptly titled "The Biggest Flower in the Whole Entire World" also earned Angus an encouragement award and a place in the Flower Power exhibition at Griffith Regional Art Gallery.
The budding artist first picked up a camera when he was three.
"My favourite things to take pictures of are family and flowers," he said.
"I look around for what I want to get a picture of and then I take it."
Proud mum Sarah Brown, herself an avid photographer, was pleasantly surprised when she discovered her son's passion for pictures.
"Our thinking was if you teach him to use it properly there's less chance of him breaking it," she laughed.
"We've always had cameras around the house but we used to joke that he'd rather be up a tree because it was never really his thing ? he's actually a real sports nut."
Angus' age is an advantage when it comes to getting that perfect shot.
"When my daughter was christened Angus took a lovely photo of the family," Mrs Brown said.
"Rather than a cheesy grin, people had a warm smile on their faces because it was Angus taking the picture."
Apart from mastering the basics of photography, Angus has also developed a trait not often seen in artists and performers ? the ability to be self-critical.
"When the images go up on the computer he sits there and says 'take that one off, it's no good'," Mrs Brown said.
Angus' winning photo can be seen at the Griffith Regi-onal Art Gallery Flower Po-wer exhibition until Monday.
