COMMITMENT and understanding are the secrets to a long marriage, at least according to Ron and Jean Jones, who marked their 60th wedding anniversary this week.
Both born and raised in Darlington Point, the couple are planning on celebrating their anniversary with their six
children, 14 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Jean, 77, was still a teenager when she married Ron, 84, after inviting him to the debutante ball.
“The debutante ball was coming up and I looked around and thought, ‘He’s not a bad looking bloke, I’ll ask him',” Jean said.
“We just started going out together after that – and that was it.”
Their long-lasting marriage is a testament to the everlasting capacity for love.
“Love just keeps on going,” Ron said.
“I love her just as much now as I did 60 years ago.”
They have lived in the same Darlington Point house for 59 years, which they bought for £600.
Ron and Jean are planning on celebrating their anniversary at the Darlington Point Club this weekend.
They are expecting around 60 guests to attend.
